j j allen ...

A good friend of mine, J. J. Allen passed away last month.
Our friendship began when I read an article he published on "soft focus" portrait photography in the late 80's. He was very gracious in taking my call and a friendship was born.
J. J. published two books on photography, and if you are one of my readers who is a professional photographer, I would suggest ordering them from Amazon.
After 9-11, J. J. and I began a long dialog on the web about the direction of my portraiture. He spent a lot of time helping me think through who I was and was there to give his guidance during the change to digital.
Through all of this his wife, Evelyn, never begrudged me the time we spent. Thank you!
Photography (mine in particular) is much better because of J.J.
He will be missed!

My sister. Peggy Rowland and I are two of JJ's nieces and we have just read your blog about JJ. Thank you so much for your comments. He was a special uncle and we and our sister, Anne were among his first "models".
It was nice to read he was an influence on your work.

Like my sisters, I am happy that you paid such a tribute to our uncle who was a real artist.
